I begin this journey at 50 years of age. A friend suggested I start a blog but it feels like I'm just exposing myself. So if you find out things about me you didn't know...sorry. Hope you will still love me.
Tonight I'm motivated to share my need to set goals, tell you about them, get you to pray for them and hold me accountable.
Goal # 1 - Walk at least 30 minutes between now and June 19. You see on June 19th 2011 we're going on a cruise. Over the past 3 years I've been able to loose around 60 lbs by walking and skimping on the calories. Well, let's be honest...sometimes I skimp - sometimes I feast. But if I'm going to cruise, I really want to look "normal" in a bathing suit...well at least as "normal" as possible. I'll probably never have a waist again, and I've found that as I loose weight...I loose my butt. There's nothing normal about being wider in the shoulders than the bottom...for a woman anyway. However, waistlines are normal...wish I could get one.
Goal # 2 - Be sugar free...at least mostly sugar free. No candy, no cakes, no pies, puddings or pastries of any sort - no pasta, no potatoes, no rice or white bread. I have to have fruit. I know there is sugar in fruit, but at least God put it there.
Goal # 3 - Cook more healthful nutritious foods for my family...yes, some from scratch- And try to make them like it!!!
Goal # 4 - Read my Bible daily...I know...you all already thought I did that right? Sorry...now you know something you probably wish you didn't. I do love to read, but I generally prefer romance or fiction. When I read my bible, I'm usually reading to complete my Sunday School or Bible Study lesson...not just because I want to know God better. So pray God gives me that desire to just know Him!
So those are my four goals for the time being. I'll probably adjust and tweak or add to and subtract from as time passes. I just wanted to put it out there so I can tell you daily what I did! Let me start with this weekend:
February 12 -
- Walked 1 hr with BP...got winded and we only did about 3/5 ths of what we used to walk.
- Was completely sugar free!!! YAY ME!
- TRIED to cook homemade bread and cinnamon rolls...flopped.
- Didn't read from my bible at all.
February 13 -
- Walked 50 minutes with JDG (my husband, to be known in future as the exercise nut or EN for short)...I think we actually walked further than BP and I did because his legs are VERY LONG...and he believes if I'm talking, I'm not working hard enough! That's why some of you ladies are going to have to help me out over the next few months and walk with me!!
- Goal 2 - flopped...chocolate fountains will kill that sugar free buzz every time!
- I ENCOURAGED eating out at lunch so I wouldn't have to cook...cooking from scratch is WORK, and lots of it. Then I made them eat left overs from the fridge. I'll start again tomorrow on the healthful, nutritious, from scratch meals!
- Well the night is young but so far I haven't read from my bible...I will before bed time.
Now see...don't you think this blog will just be sooooo interesting to read daily?? I'm joking. I'll try to make things interesting but I just want to be accountable somewhere. If you don't want to read...no biggie. But if you will (and pray for me too) and harass me (gently) when I fail...you will be a good friend.
DLG
Yay for blogs! I will pray for you and I look forward to being part of your journey!
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl! I must tell you that in my FB message, you had "girffin" instead of "griffin," but I found you! We'll try to keep each other mutually accountable. We're supposed to take a multi-family excursion to Schlitterbaun this summer, so I have the same issues in reverse - MUCH wider at the bottom than the top :) Not only will my family and friends see me in a swimsuit, my children's friends will be there as well. The horror! Did I mention a couple of REALLY thin friends are going?! Anyway, I think this is the perfect time of year to do this. This blog should be a great motivation for climbing back on the wagon when we inevitably fall off for a day. Let's do it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go on this journey with you! It is Valentine's Day and so far Jackye has put a box of chocolates on my desk and Missy has brought creme filled mini cupcakes to the office! So this day is blown! I am treating myself to dinner tonight so I will start with you tomorrow. After losing 68 pounds I have started to gain it back with a "what's the use attitude" over giving up on LUV and all that jazz! Well, I am the use! I should do this because God gave me one life and one body and I should take care of it.
ReplyDeleteI know this is a God Thing because yesterday morning I prayed and asked God for help in getting this issue under control. He has answered my prayer!
Looking forward to the journey!
Diane
I'm so excited to have at least two of you going with me!!! I hope you all do better than I did today. But...tomorrow is a new day! DLG
